Are you kidding me?

October 8, 2009

This past saturday, was a day of chores for me. I managed to get inside to do some stuff during the good part of the Michigan/Michigan State game. I had timed that well. The goal was to catch the end of that game, if it was close, watch as much of one of the 3:30 games as I could, and be ready to settle in for the Buckeyes, and the Blue Jackets. I lucked out on the first game, as it was one of the more exciting games so far this season.
I wish that was the case with the game I selected to entertain me from 3:30 to kickoff for the Buckeyes. I tuned in for LSU vs. Georgia. I have to say. If those are two top 10 teams, I might be one of the best running backs in all of college football. Thankfully, one of them would have to lose, and give the loser a more realistic ranking, except that would just inflate the winner that much more.
Had they not showed the ranking of the two teams, and the SEC logo about 900 times, you would have sworn you were watching at best 2 middle of the pack ACC or Big Ten teams go at it, maybe even a couple FCS schools.
I realize any team from the SEC is automatically in the top 25, just because, but both LSU, and Georgia, suck, really, really bad.
Since the SEC gets away with everything, despite having more really bad teams than any other conference, this is what we have to deal with. Don’t get me wrong. Florida, and Alabama are money, but come one. Since LSU and Georgia are in the SEC, instead of getting hammered for having two horrible offenses, they chalk it up to the other teams defense being one of the greatest of all time.
Any other conference, and these schools are called for what they really are. Average football teams, in a time when there really isn’t that many great teams.
Because it’s the SEC, horrible offense is just because the other team has an amazing defense. I watch the games, I know what I see. If every team you play with the exception of one team is completely inept, you should have a pretty good ranking on defense. Yeah, SEC teams generally have good defenses, but they get inflated numbers, and over-hyped, because there is one good QB in the conference at any given time.
Georgia blows, really, really hard. Every good skill position player with the exception of A.J. Green left last season, when they weren’t that good anyway. They struggled to beat a Michigan State team who had got absolutely destroyed by every other ranked team they played.  And oh yeah, all their good players (sans 2) are in the NFL now. LSU is only slightly better. Maybe they have a decent defense, but until they play Florida, we won’t know for sure. Just because neither team can score, doesn’t mean they are playing against the ‘85 Bears. A spade is a spade in this case.
Take the SEC logo out of the picture when you look at LSU and Georgia, and you have Iowa, and Wisconsin. Two above average teams, that excel in one or two areas, but completely fall short in more areas than one.
I’m not saying Iowa or Wisconsin is better than these two southern fried turds, but on a neutral site, this game is decided by a touchdown or less.
After all, when neither team can score, it can’t be a blowout.
To add insult to injury, undefeated Auburn has cracked the top 25, despite having played nobody. Undefeated Wisconsin? Nowhere to be found. Wisconsin would beat Auburn by 10 or more. Notre Dame, and Michigan would too, and where are those teams ranked?
Yes, the SEC has the best  2 teams of any conference, but let’s not let that justify where the other SEC teams fit into the mix. I’ve been a lifelong Bengals fan. I know shitty football when I see it.
